The organisations who make up our partnership network

Joint Venture Partners

PAC is the result of a joint venture between the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute signed in October 2020.

The Tasmanian Land Conservancy is a not-for-profit, apolitical, science and community-based organisation that raises funds from the public to protect irreplaceable sites and rare ecosystems by buying and managing private land in Tasmania.

“The Protected Areas Collaboration (PAC) provides the avenue for the Tasmanian Land Conservancy to contribute to and learn from global best practice in nature conservation through science, innovation, collaboration and open communication with the region. The strength of the PAC is centred on organisations coming together to contribute to and achieve shared objectives”

- James Hattam, Tasmanian Land Conservancy CEO

The Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute is an independent, not-for-profit Institute set in The Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area of Australia - an awe-inspiring natural and cultural landscape of over a million hectares.

“The Protected Areas Collaboration advances the mission of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute to deliver strategic and responsive programs that build capacity and leadership in conservation. These programs will approach conservation challenges as problems to solve together, in respectful and inclusive ways, recognising the importance of different types of knowledge and learning approaches. Importantly, the Collaboration is based on partnerships that can broaden and deepen our collective understanding and help drive innovation in protected area conservation regionally.”

- John Merson, BMWHI Director

TNC signs an MOU with the Joint Venture

In late 2021, The Nature Conservancy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Joint Venture, with the shared objective of increasing TNC’s reach and impact for the betterment of conservation in Australia, Asia and the Pacific. In particular, to provide a means to professionalize managers, community members and others engaged in looking after protected areas.

The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental non-profit non-government organisation working to create a world where people and nature can thrive.

“The Nature Conservancy is excited to partner with the Protected Areas Collaboration (PAC) to support the professionals and community-based conservation practitioners working on protected areas and other area-based conservation activities in Australia, Asia and the Pacific. They are the front-line stewards of our planet’s remarkable diversity.”

- Edward Game, Lead Scientist & Director of Conservation, Asia Pacific
